Whether you travel often for business or pleasure -- or just enjoy the infrequent vacation away -- knowing what to pack ahead of time always helps your trip go smoothly. There are a few non-negotiable items that always make it on the packing list, and some are great to bring along if you have the extra room. In order to prioritize your health while traveling, make sure that the following items are non-negotiables on your packing list. Here's a list of some healthy items you can carry to ensure you keep up your healthy habits while you're away from home.

Moisturizer

Whether or not you realize it, traveling can leave your skin extra thirsty. Be sure you take a travel-sized moisturizer on the plane with you to quench your dehydrated skin. The cabin air on planes can really dry out your skin; it might be advisable to moisturize before, during and after your flight, depending on the duration of your travels.

Proper Probiotics
If your biggest fear when traveling is coming down with stomach troubles, I would encourage you to take along probiotics. Taking a probiotic regularly helps your body to maintain healthy levels of microorganisms and promotes your gastrointestinal and immune health. When traveling, it is especially important to keep your immune system strong since you may be exposed to new bacterias.

Protein Powder
Taking protein powder with you that you can easily add to a cup of coffee is a life-changing travel item. When choosing a protein powder, try to find ones that do not have added sugars or artificial sweeteners. By picking a protein powder that comes in small pouches, you can easily carry it on your flight or have it conveniently packed away for when the need strikes.

Protein Bars
Similar to protein powder, carrying protein bars provides a great boost of protein when it feels necessary. Pick protein bars that are low in sodium and high in protein and fiber. Again, it’s a good idea to avoid added sugars and artificial sweeteners in order to continue prioritizing your health. That being said, it doesn't hurt if it tastes good too. Brands such as Larabar may be a good option, though any that you find palatable will do the trick.

Packed Snacks
In addition to protein and probiotic supplements, you can also focus on eating foods rich in these categories while you're away. Some examples of probiotic rich foods include kimchi, yogurt, kefir, tempeh, and sauerkraut. It would also be a great idea to drink a kombucha on your travels to up the probiotic benefits, as well. If you don’t like protein bars or powder, other great options for protein-filled snacks include nuts, trail mix, hard-boiled eggs and jerky.

Jet Lag Supplements
If your travels take you through different time zones, it may be difficult for your body to quickly adjust its sleep schedule. This can make it hard for you to get a good night's rest at your destination. By traveling with jet lag supplements, you'll relieve jet lag and all the side effects that come with it. This way, you can be well-rested and ready from the start of your trip rather than wasting the first couple of your days napping or sleeping in. There are many options for these kinds of supplements; however, Genexa makes a homeopathic jet lag supplement that will certainly do the trick.

Electrolyte Powder
While it can be challenging to keep up with your hydration requirements on a normal day, it is imperative to focus on hydration when you're traveling. Dehydration can exacerbate the symptoms of jet lag and negatively impact your gastrointestinal and skin health. Having a healthy electrolyte powder to mix with water for a hydration boost will help keep things running smoothly. The right electrolyte supplement helps restore and replenish your body's sodium, potassium, and magnesium stores so you feel balanced. These supplements also come in small packets that are easy to toss in your bag and carry with you wherever you go, making them the perfect travel companion.

Exercise Outfit
Last but certainly not least, don’t forget to pack that activewear outfit! By including just one pair of sneakers and a set of workout clothes, you can completely turn around your vacation. Whether it’s a quick run around the hotel area, a short strength session in the fitness center or a simple stretch class in your hotel room, any sort of movement will go a long way. Even a 10 minute workout in the morning can kick off your day with a metabolism boost, increase your energy and put you in the proper mindset to conquer the day.

With these healthy items in your carry-on, you will be far less likely to flounder during your travels. Having a healthy balance when far from home also means you continue to make wise choices with meals in order to give you enough energy to do all the activities you have been planning for your trip. By maintaining consistency in your healthy habits despite changing conditions, you are reminding your body and mind of your commitment to your goals.

These essentials will help you to nurture your well-being, but above all, embrace the magic of the unknown, stay present in the moment, and create wonderful new memories while you travel.
